Dakota spent the night in the bathroom with the door locked. Gentle knock on the door woke her up and she heard Dylan’s calm voice.
“Honey? Are you still in there?”
No sign of the hate and anger from lst night but she stayed quiet.
A few moments later, she heard the front door as Dylan left the apartment.
She picked up the clothes she was wearing yesterday and put it on.
I have to get out of here.
She was packing her stuff when her fiance walked into the bedroom.
“What are you doing?”
“I can’t be with you, Dylan. Not after what happened last night.”
Dylan looked down on his feet, “I’m so sorry about that, baby. It wasn’t me. Please give me one more chance.”
“Look, I got us coffee and donuts. Can we please at least talk about it?”
He’s really sorry.
“Ok,” Dakota followed him into the kitchen where she found flowers on the dining table.
“I got these for you.”
“Thank you, they’re beautiful.”
“Not as beautiful as you.”
Dylan stepped closer, “I don’t know what’s gotten into me last night. I love you so much that just a thought of you flirting with another guy makes me go crazy. Can you forgive me?”
Dakota signed, “do you promise it will never happen again?”
“I promise. I would never hurt you, you know that, right? I love you.”
“I love you too.”
Dylan was the perfect boyfriend and fiance every since. He was still hanging out with his friends but not nearly as often as he used to. He wasn’t drinking anymore and his school attendance was perfect until graduation.
“Happy birthday, baby,” he surprised her with her favorite strawberry cake, “make a wish.”
I wish we are happy together forever.
“I have an interview next week.”
“Really? What job?”
“Data entry. I really hope I get it. Our savings are really low. Soon we won’t be able to pay rent.”
“I hope so, too.”
“How about you?”
“I’ve been looking. Didn’t find anything interesting, though.”
“I got the job! I start next Monday!”
“Congrats, baby. I knew you’d get it,” Dylan said without looking up from his game.
“How about you? Any luck?”
Dakota sat down on the couch next to him and turned on her iPad, “Dylan we both need jobs. I can’t afford to pay for this place on my own. They’re paying me minimum wage.” she said and started scrolling down through job offers, “look, they’re opening a new hotel and they’re looking for people to fill all positions.”
“I don’t want to work in a hotel. I’ll find a job, ok?!” he said with no interest, “can you back off?”
“Fine. By the way. I’m going dress shopping this weekend and I’ll be spending the night at Kyra’s on Saturday.”
“Ok. I’ll have the guys over.”
“That’s fine. I just don’t want to get a text accusing me of cheating. Are we clear?”
Dylan put down the controller and looked her in the eyes, “that was a one time mistake, how many times do I have to apologize for it?”
“You don’t. I’m just making sure it doesn’t happen again.”
